Unit 3: Indexical and Temporal

Blind Time (Grief) by Robert Morris

artist statement

Close your eyes and see something.

think when we close our eyes we think more about the creativity of space, places, people. Because when people open their eyes to see the world, they frame and imprison their minds. Because the idea that what’s right in front of you is present in your mind.

He codifies the long process of experimentation and creation, concluding that the essence of minimalist work is experiencial based, and he rejects the idea of art as a self-contained, self-contained thing, instead, it emphasizes the relationship between the work and the audience, and conveys the importance of context and situation through the easy-to-understand simple polyhedra. Maurice then introduced more ad hoc and random elements to his process: Untitled (1967) was made up of felt fabrics cut into strips without a fixed shape and scattered randomly on the floor. The intimate and personal nature of these pictures is a part of Maurice’s minimalist cubism that we can barely convey, almost from the shades and brushstrokes, and at times rough, at times fine lines, imagine the artist sitting at a table, concentrating his thoughts; he gives us a more direct sense, how can an artist continue to subvert the field of art without losing his original intention, go home every day, through the simplest strokes and paper, to think more about life beyond the plane dimension and the concept of art issues.

His paintings are meaningful, emotional. When people try to empathize with what we’re painting, then what we’re painting can express emotion, meaning and meaning. Rather than pure beauty and ugliness.
